The Players Tribe Q&A with Trae Clayton

2022 four-star 6'5 Trae Clayton is one of the top players coming out of the DFW, and there's a lot of talent out here! He plays the game the right way, truly an all-around guard, college basketball fans will love his effort on both ends, athleticism, and scoring abilities. Towards the end of our interview, he describes what kind of player he believes he is. He's a tough player to matchup with, and I believe that he will make an impact in college. Here is my conversation with Trae Clayton.

by David Michael

Which schools are involved?

"Nebraska, Seton Hall, Marquette, Auburn, OSU, Florida".

Talk Seton Hall, thoughts on the program, Coach Willard's pitch?

"I've watched some games to see how Coach Willard coaches and I kinda feel his coaching style. Can be intense at times, but overall knows what he's doing. Really built a good relationship with Coach Grant, a really cool coach and very enthusiastic just like myself, love his energy!"

Heard you are visiting there, what's the plan on that?

"I'm planning on taking one during the fall, if their covid guidelines can allow visitors on campus."

Aside from Seton Hall, any planned visits?

"I haven't planned any yet other than Seton Hall but hope to do so in the next couple of months."

What kind of program do you see in Florida?

"Haven't spoken to them yet but they did talk to my mom, and express their interest after the TABC event."

When it comes down to making a commitment, what things do you value when making that decision?

"Making a decision boils down to of course the basketball program and how I fit, my relationship with the coaching staff, and my major."

How would you describe your game? What is a college coach getting from Trae Clayton?

"College coaches are getting a bonafide winner. I'm a guy who plays to win at all costs. People refer to me as "a dawg" on the court which means I play hard on both ends of the court. I'm a leader who knows how to get my teammates going. I can score the ball but also can defend! Versatility is what else they get. I can play 2, 3, and stretch 4 and defend 1-5. Main goal is winning a championship at the highest level which is a State Championship....and of course to continue to develop my game so I am fully prepared and ready for the next level."
